1 week on 3 legs

Molly J, Wonderpup, is working on her positive attitude. She has always been an upbeat pup, going on 13 years. But, a week ago, she came home on 3 legs, after we decided that a 2nd tumor debulking surgery wouldn’t  be beneficial.

I suppose the drugs from surgery helped her to feel like she could move around as she always had: full speed ahead. She slowed down as she came down from them and adapted to all the meds she’s been getting at home. She had a couple of full days of drainage from the incision. Let me shout out a big, “EEEEEWWWWWWW!” for that. But after that mess, her bruising was much less. The sweet girl’s fever also broke after the emergency vet injected fluids beneath her skin.

These last few days have been slow, but seemingly less painful. She’s been enjoying some sunshine, shade, and porch time a few times a day. It’s been so heartwarming to see her wagging her tail more, offer more kisses, and seem more alert. I know it’s still a long and probably bumpy road ahead, but we’re determined.

This week would have been so much more difficult without the Tripawd community supporting, encouraging, and sharing.  Thanks to you all!

Molly j had her rear leg amputated after a mean tumor returned. She's a 12 year old who's as playful as she was when she was a young pup.

  1. Loooooove that sweet girl’s face, thank you for posting a photo and giving us an update.

Oh yeah, seroma’s are icky! Did you see Sarge the Boxer’s latest blog post about ’em? Haw haw! His Momma has a cast-iron stomach!

Glad she’s doing well. Day by day, these weeks are going to go by quickly and you’ll wonder why you were ever so scared.

We’re here to help so don’t be shy OK?

  2. Molly is a gorgeous girl! My little 14 year old chihuahua mix, Leo, just had his front left leg amputated about a week ago so I just wanted to reach out and say I am right here with you in that this is tough! I know there are so many people here and the info and support is phenomenal! This community is what helped me to decide that amputation was the right thing for my pup.
I hope miss Molly is feeling better today. Sending many good thoughts and positive healing vibes your way!
