Renewing a Sense of Normalcy

Over the last couple of days, I have reconsidered where Molly J is in her recovery as well as where I am in my protection of my girl. She had begun an anti-drug campaign a few days ago. At the beginning, she was all like, “Drugs are great! Drugs are neat! Now I only have 3 feet!” Then she decided she wanted to just say, “No,” to the meds which have been necessary to her recovery.
At the same time, she also decided she wasn’t very hungry. So, of course, I went against the advice and handfed her some of her favorite things: baked chicken, grilled steak, peanut butter, etc… i wanted to make sure she had something in her tummy to buffer all the meds she didn’t want. But she wouldn’t eat the kibble in her bowl. She would walk by it on her way back to her comfy bed in the living room.
Molly J is usually outside for a good part of the day. But, these past 2 weeks, since her tumor erupted and her leg was removed, I’ve kept her inside much more. I wanted to supervise and make sure she wasn’t being taken advantage of by bugs outside.
Considering all of these things, I came to the conclusion that my sweet girl just wanted to feel normal again. So, now that her incision is pretty well closed, we spent most of yesterday outside. She perked up after an afternoon on Neighborhood Watch. She basked in the sun, retired to the shade of the rhododendron when warm, and barked at the chickens next door. It was a good day. And as a bonus, my car is now cleaned and detailed. I don’t remember the last time it looked so good.
To make it even better, she decided that she was hungry! I heated up some of the soup I made the night before, and added it to a bit of her regular food. (This is something we started when she had surgery in April to debulk a tumor.) She ate it all! And, she took her meds with no refusals! I believe her normal day outside was to credit.
Day 10 post amp and counting…

Molly j had her rear leg amputated after a mean tumor returned. She's a 12 year old who's as playful as she was when she was a young pup.

  1. WONDERFUL DAY!!!!!! And her picture…I LOVE that picture! I LOVE that picture of her! Such a sweet and gentle soul with just enough grey to mark the “wisdom years”!

Yeah, a bit of “normalcy” is good…for both of you! And good for you for recognizing just what she needed.

I’m soooooo glad she’s eating and revisiting joy and contentment again! Going to her “favorite places? and having youmoutside with her…..a day of bliss!!

  3. Best update EVER! It’s ok to break the rules sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do, we aren’t mad! I’m just hoppy that you’re feeling good about your routines again and so is she. Her beautiful, content expression says it all. I love that face.
